Expanding our integrated value chain in Southern Africa through gas monetisation requires long lead times. Against this backdrop, on the African continent we are focusing not just on upstream gas opportunities, but also on oil, which provides faster opportunities for revenue generation in terms of bridging finance to fund upstream gas activity.

Offshore Gabon, Sasol has a 27,75% interest in the Etame Marin Permit, operated by Houston-based VAALCO Energy. Gross oil production of sweet crude oil of about 14 500 to 15 000 barrels per day is realised from the Etame, Ebouri and Avouma oil fields. Here, together with our partners, we are progressing projects aimed at maturing and developing additional proven oil reserves to maintain and potentially boost production. These projects are on track for beneficial operation in 2015.
