Sasol has completed a R600 000 community investment programme in the Sabie and surrounding areas, as part of the company’s commitment to holding the Sasol Rally here for the past 22 years.
Sasol Oil’s investment will be directed towards building permanent shelters for informal businesses in partnership with York Timbers, who will also receive business development training.
Memezile High School and Graskop Primary School are the two identified schools in the area benefiting from the Sasol Oil-York Timber partnership. The support to Graskop Primary School entails the refurbishment of 11 classrooms, four ablution facilities, administration offices and a kitchen. The classrooms at Memezile High School have been furnished with 200 new desks and chairs.
According to Alan Cameron, Managing Director of Sasol Oil, “This investment by Sasol and York Timbers is a contribution toward education which is a key factor in economic growth, wellbeing of the community and job creation in the Mpumalanga region. Further, the community welcomes us each year for the Sasol Rally and this is our way to give back to the community.”
Piet van Zyl, Chief Executive Officer from York Timbers said, “York Timbers is a significant employer in Mpumalanga Province and believes it has a duty to contribute meaningfully to the well-being South Africans. These three projects make a difference in the community we operate in and we support Sasol in their initiatives.”
