Sasolburg, South Africa – The South African national wheelchair basketball team, the Sasol AmaWheelaBoys, will play an exhibition match against NWU Vaal Triangle Campus (VTC) on Saturday, 15 September 2018 at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Complex in Zamdela. The game will start at 14:30.
This match will be the highlight of the 5th annual Sasol-NWU Vaal Senior Basketball tournament to take place from 14 to 16 September 2018. Play will start at 16:00 on Friday afternoon, with the semis and finals being played on the Sunday.
Ladies’ and men’s teams from all over South Africa are expected to battle it out for the top three positions. Apart from the coveted champion trophies, the winning teams take home gold medals and R10 000. Silver medalists receive R5 000 and the bronze medalists, R2 500.
Action will continue after the exhibition match, with the Green vs Gold match taking centre court at 15:00. The Green vs Gold series serves as preparation for the AmaWheelaBoys ahead of the African qualifiers, and subsequently for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
