Secunda - Today Sasol hosted its 18th annual Grade 12 Merit Award function to recognise and reward learners from the Govan Mbeki Municipal region in the Mpumalanga province who have passed their matric examinations with three or more distinctions in 2012. Each achiever was awarded a Sasol Grade 12 Merit Award certificate together with cash incentives for outstanding results. The top 10 achievers in the province received laptops at the provincial matric announcement.
“Sasol is committed to the ongoing recognition of excellence in learner performance and in giving support to the Department of Education, teachers and learners in our community,” said Maureen Mboshane, General Manager: Sasol Secunda Corporate Affairs Manager. She further expressed her pride in the Mpumalanga class of 2012, which registered a 5.2% improvement and current pass rate of 70%.
In addition, Mboshane made particular mention of the 9998 learners who have passed Mathematics, and 10426 learners who have passed Physical Science, indicating an overall improvement by 799 and 1401 learners in each subject respectively.
Sasol has also encouraged the class of 2013 to apply themselves fully to their school work and urged teachers and learners to utilise the resources and facilities that Sasol has made available through the Osizweni Education Development Centre, for the advancement of the quality of education in our schools.
Last week, at the provincial Grade 12 results announcement ceremony, the Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule also commended and rewarded the top learners in the Mpumalanga Province who excelled in Mathematics and Physical Science.
