At approximately 07:45 today, an explosion occurred at Natref in Sasolburg in the vicinity of the hydrogen compressors. Eight people were treated for shock, three for dust inhalation and four for minor injuries. Natref’s emergency services were activated immediately, all personnel evacuated from the area and the situation promptly brought under control.
Operating units in the vicinity of the hydrogen compressors have been shut down and a detailed investigation into the incident has commenced. Production in areas that were not affected by the incident continues and there is currently sufficient stock to meet customer and market supply requirements.
