SOCIAL INVESTMENT
Sasol is committed to Social Investment in its fenceline communities. As a way of consolidating and structuring its social impact interventions, in 2019, the company adhered to the model proposed by Resolution No. 21/2014, which approves the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy for the Extractive Industry of Mineral Resources, which resulted in the signing of the Local Development Agreements (LDAs), that amount to USD 20 Million for the two Districts over a period of 5 years, with 37 communities from Inhassoro and Govuro Districts.
The LDAs are tripartite approach between Sasol, local communities, and district governments (Govuro and Inhassoro), through which the parties align their priorities in promoting sustainable development, in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy for the Extractive Industry, approved by the Government of Mozambique through the Resolution no. 21/2014, of 16 May.
The management structure of the LDAs is composed of a Partnership Committee, where Sasol, the Communities, the Governments of the Districts of Govuro and Inhassoro are represented, with 9 and 28 communities, respectively, and a Provincial Supervisory Committee led jointly by the Governor and the Secretary of State in Inhambane Province.
The parties meet 3 times a year, in the Partnership Committee, to discuss the implementation of the LDAs projects and programmes progress, as well as any other matters related to the body. The presidency of the body rotates between the government of each District and the communities every two years.
Through the LDAs Partnership Committees, communities play an active role in the decision-making process related to Social Investment projects and their implementation in the 37 communities.
Sasol’s Social Investment, however, is not limited to the initiatives covered under the alluded agreements and to the districts of Govuro and Inhassoro. The LDAs and other CSI initiatives, which are implemented throughout Mozambique, follow under 6 strategic Social Investment pillar, namely:

INVESTIMENTO SOCIAL
