'Emerge' is the positioning theme for the 2012 Sasol New Signatures art competition, that encouraged artists to come forth and display their talent. In line with this, art students of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University were given the opportunity to collectively embellish an emerging hand, in support of this annual competition.

 

On semi-completion, the emerging hand was transported by Stuttaford Van Lines to Sasol’s head office in Rosebank where Sasol employees collaborated to complete the emerging hand artwork. The hand will be on display at the head office’s main reception until the awards ceremony and exhibition opening held at the Pretoria Art Museum later this month.

 

The competition finalists have been selected and the winners’ announcement and awards ceremony will take place on 29 August 2012 at the Pretoria Art Museum. The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition Exhibition will be open to the public from 30 August 2012 to 30 September 2012. Also exhibiting during this period is Peter Mohau Modisakeng, the 2011 Sasol New Signatures winner, as part of his solo exhibition won last year.

 

The Sasol New Signatures art competition is a springboard for emerging artists to launch their careers. Presented in collaboration with the Association of Arts Pretoria, it is the longest running national art competition in South Africa.
