Dipaleseng- Sasol Mining officially handed over the upgraded Nthoroane roads infrastructure to the Dipaleseng Municipality on 15 October 2014 in Nthoroane. A delegation representing Sasol Mining’s Mining Rights and Properties Department, the Executive Mayor of Dipaleseng, Cllr NS Nhlapo and her political and administrative leadership as well as community representatives attended the handover ceremony hosted by Sasol Mining.
This initiative forms part of Sasol Mining’s R25, 5 million Social and Labour Plan (SLP) investments towards infrastructure development in the Dipaleseng municipal district.
This 5 year agreement was signed between Sasol Mining and the Dipaleseng Municipality on 30 August 2012 and forms part of the SLP approved by the Department of Mineral Resources. Since the inception of this agreement the fencing of three water reservoirs in Nthoroane and Greylingstad has been successfully completed in 2013.
The objective of the Nthoroane roads project is to rehabilitate and pave the existing dilapidated gravel roads in the area. Construction commenced in March 2014 and the project was completed during September 2014.
A further initiative in the area that was approved by the Department of Mineral Resources and forms part of Sasol Mining’s SLP namely, the upgrading and reconnection of the Nthoroane waste water treatment plant to Greylingstad’s sewerage infrastructure will commence in the near future.
Ampie Potgieter: Head of Mining Rights and Properties, Sasol Mining said: “The projects that are included in our approved SLP are aligned with the municipalities’ Integrated Development Plans, the National Development Plan and it also takes into account the actual needs of the communities in the areas where we operate. It is the communities that best understand the challenges they face on a daily basis”.
Sasol Mining has been an enthusiastic and generous social investor and it has always been important for us to ensure that we are involved with initiatives that truly make a difference in the broader communities close to our operations. We are therefore absolutely delighted to be part of the infrastructure development in the Dipaleseng Municipal District. This gesture is in firm alignment with our intent to establish stable, viable and sustainable communities.
Ends.
