Together with the Department of Education, the Sasol Inzalo Foundation has developed purpose-designed science and technology curriculum workbooks that will reach six million South African learners from grades four to nine.
The workbooks combine both subjects into a single, comprehensive school book, as well as teacher manuals. The workbooks are made available at no cost. Grades four to six workbooks are available for download at www.thunderboltkids.co.za. The material has been developed under Open Copyright license, allowing educators and learners to copy, print and distribute freely to promote easy access to quality educational material.
“All of these developments and the work being done with SaIF (the Sasol Inzalo Foundation) is incredibly exciting and incredibly important for the future development of the country especially in the field of Mathematics, Science and Technology,” said Department of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga
The workbook project, spearheaded by the Sasol Inzalo Foundation in partnership with Siyavula and the Department of Basic Education, has seen three million workbooks distributed to public schools throughout South Africa.
“We are very proud of this project and is a significant step forward in achieving excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. These workbooks will give learners, and teachers, access to quality and relevant educational material,” said Mpho Letlape, Managing Director, Sasol Inzalo Foundation.
“The workbook programme has been a resounding success and look forward to reaching even more learners. Sasol is very proud to partner with Minister Motshekga and her department to roll out these workbooks,” said Nolitha Fakude, Executive Director, Sasol Limited.
