In recognition of its deep commitment to the arts, Sasol in partnership with the South African National Youth Orchestra Foundation (SANYOF) emerged as the winner of the Youth Development Award in the 16th annual Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) Awards.
The award honors projects that encourage the development of young talent and participation in the arts, and was presented as a result of Sasol’s long term partnership with SANYOF.
Sasol has partnered with SANYOF’s initiatives since 1979. The programme aims to encourage participation in performance arts and provides young talented enthusiasts with the opportunity to boost their musical abilities on a national platform.
“As a company, we are committed to finding innovative ways to unite and unlock the potential of South Africans. We are extremely passionate about this partnership and the sustainable impact that it is making in improving lives and taking the arts to broader society,” said Richard Hughes, Sasol’s Sponsorship Manager.
“Our partnership with SANYOF is one that has been of great benefit to both parties and its success demonstrates the value that the corporate sector can play in the development of South African youth, not only through funding, but also through the involvement of staff on an operational level,” continued Hughes.
Selected entirely on merit, top-notch musicians in the National Youth Orchestra programmes hail from all regions in South Africa. Participants, aged between 13 and 25 years are selected for one of two orchestras: the National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Concert Orchestra.
Approximately 75% of South African orchestral musicians in the symphony orchestras today have played in the National Youth Orchestra, and many of the alumni are now professionals in top orchestras around the world.
“Through this partnership, SANYOF is recognised for launching the successful careers of many internationally recognised musicians. With so many milestones already achieved and a host of solid growth plans in place, we are geared to achieve exceptional success together going forward, concluded SANYOF Managing Director, Sophia Weltz.
