Motorsport enthusiasts are invited to experience the fast-paced, thrilling action of circuit racing at the Sasol Race Day to be held at the Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria, on Saturday, 30 August 2014.
Sasol Race Day is the sixth round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship for 2014, where the Sasol racing team will showcase both their driving skills and the power of the Audi S4 Quattro race cars.
Sasol has a long history of involvement with motorsport. At this year’s Race Day the company will demonstrate its level of expertise in this field, by showcasing the impressive racing performance of Sasol’s Turbofuels Plus and Sasol Techno Oil.
“Our association with motorsport is an important part of Sasol’s history. As a fuel producer, we have continuously supported the development of racing engine technology. Over the years, we have aspired to advance the performance of our fuels and lubricants for the motor racing industry, and we believe the performance of our racing teams is testament to our efforts,” shared Zolile Ntukwana, Senior Manager, Public Affairs Southern African Energy at Sasol.
“Despite challenges in the past few months, I think we showed good competitiveness and race pace at the last Phakisa race series - resulting in us placing third and fourth in the race. We have since taken on further developments to the vehicle, optimising its engine performance. We are feeling confident going into the Sasol Race Day,” said Vic Maharaj, Sasol racing Team Manager.
The Sasol racing team drivers, Hennie Groenewald and Gennaro Bonafede will showcase the torque and power of the Audi S4 Quattro 3L TSFi. Competing in his debut race for Sasol, Gennaro is geared for the challenge of competing on the fast paced track. Hennie, with his years of motor racing experience is no stranger to circuit racing as well. At Zwartkops, the Sasol racing team will aim to improve their Phakisa race times and complete the race with top honors.
Also launching on Race Day is the Sasol Solar Challenge. Ranked as one of the top global events of its kind, the Sasol Solar Challenge demonstrates the technological innovation and enduring performance of solar-powered vehicles. The Solar Challenge will take place from 27 September, starting in Pretoria and finishing on 4 October in Cape Town and will see 14 local and international teams, including six local universities and two schools participating.
Those attending Race Day will also get the opportunity to view the concept Sasol solar car and watch the vehicle doing a few laps around the track to prepare for the upcoming and exciting eight-day country-wide challenge.
This year’s event will also include an interactive area where learners will be required to build a model solar-powered car and compete against other schools in the hopes of being the fastest solar team.
The motorsport race qualifier begins at 08:30 with the first race scheduled to line up at the starting grid at 10:30 am. Fans are also invited to the Sasolracing pit to meet the team and have a closer look at the cars at 10:30 am as well.
