Motorsport fans and competitors from across the country will descend to Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria, for the Sasol Race Day that takes place on Saturday 31 August 2013. The Sasol Race Day is the seventh round of the Super Series, where the Sasolracing Circuit Team is confident to brace victory in the Bridgestone Production Car Championship.
Motorsport is an important part of Sasol’s history, where it has been a leader in innovation for more than six decades. “We’ve played a pivotal role in contributing to the development of racing engine technology. The result has been high performance fuels and lubricants that are being developed and tested by Sasol for South African conditions,” said Alan Cameron, Managing Director, Sasol Oil.
Sasolracing driver, Hennie Groenewald, had a winning performance at the previous round in Phakisa, Free State, where he claimed a win in race two. This year started on a high note for the team, as Groenewald claimed a pair of second place finishes at Kyalami. On the weekend, Groenewald will be driving solo, as his team mate Richard Pinard is recovering from an accident.
“The Sasol Race Day is an event that we look forward to every year. The track that is suited to our type of racecar, the Subaru all-wheel drive and I am looking forward to do well in front of our supporters,” said Groenewald.
The Sasol Racing Circuit Team pilots Subaru WRX STI’s, which underwent an eight week extensive development. Circuit vehicles have highly sophisticated engines equipped with state-of-the-art technology that endure extreme conditions, yet maintain high performance.
The race qualifier will start at 07h30, with the first race scheduled to line at the starting grid at 10h00. Fans are invited to the Sasolracing pits to meet the team and have a closer look at the cars.
