Johannesburg, South Africa - The Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) marked a major milestone this weekend, celebrating 25 years as a leading hub for science engagement and STEM education in South Africa. The Big Birthday Bash Open Day showcased the Centre’s legacy of inspiring curiosity and innovation, while unveiling its latest addition, the Innovation Studio powered by Sasol.
The Innovation Studio is designed to equip learners, teachers, and the public with critical digital skills for the 4th Industrial Revolution. Featuring hands-on coding and robotics experiences, AI demonstrations, and interactive exhibits, the Studio will serve as a dynamic space for creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Steven Sack, Director of the Cape Town Science Centre, stated that, “For 25 years, the CTSC has been committed to making science accessible, exciting, and relevant. The launch of the Innovation Studio powered by Sasol is a bold step into the future, a space where learners can explore cutting-edge technologies and develop the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This partnership exemplifies how collaboration can transform education and empower the next generation.”
The unveiling of the Innovation Studio forms part of the Sasol Foundation’s broader mandate to support systemic impact in STEM education and the rollout of the Coding and Robotics curriculum in partnership with the Department of Basic Education. Through initiatives like robotics hubs and hackathons, Sasol is helping to bridge the digital divide and prepare learners for future careers.

Mpolai Koloko, Sasol Foundation STEM Specialist, added, “At Sasol Foundation, we believe that education is the cornerstone of progress. By partnering with the Cape Town Science Centre, we are creating opportunities for learners to engage with technologies that will define the future. The Innovation Studio is more than a physical space, it is a catalyst for curiosity, creativity, and confidence in STEM. Together, we are building pathways for young people to participate meaningfully in the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
The CTSC serves over 50,000 visitors annually, offering interactive exhibits and workshops that demystify science and technology. With the Innovation Studio, the Centre aims to deepen its impact by providing learners and educators with practical tools and experiences aligned to the national Coding and Robotics curriculum.
As the Cape Town Science Centre celebrates 25 years of igniting curiosity, the launch of the Innovation Studio marks an exciting new chapter, one that strengthens its legacy and expands opportunities for future generations of innovators.
