After a gruelling 1:34:30, Rudolf Naudé emerged victorious at the first leg of Sasol’s Cross Adventure events. The race was held at Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark and was the first in a series of three events, which conclude in April 2014.
“It was gratifying to reach the finish line. I’m delighted to have won the title. It was an enjoyable race, which was well organised with a great trail,” commented Naudé.
Second place was scooped up by Brad Edwards in a time of 01:39:10 and Joggie Rossouw was placed third with a time of 01:42:10.
Sasolburg’s Sylvia van Tromp came overall eighth, winning the ladies triathlon in an excellent 01:46:00. She was followed by Magda Nieuwoudt with a time of 01:55:15 and Charné Prinsloo coming in at 01:56:14.
Ivor Zwane, General Manager Public Affairs at Sasol Sasolburg said, “The Sasol Cross Adventure is a highlight on our sport events calendar and we were delighted with the turnout. The day was one of healthy, sporting fun and Sasol is committed to supporting the development of sports at all levels of our society.”
Participants in the Cross Adventure event have the option of three races. The sprint triathlon comprises of a 500m swim, 10km mountain bike ride and a 3km run; the standard triathlon is made up of a 1km swim, 22km mountain bike ride and a 5km run; and the duathlon includes a 3km run, 22km mountain bike ride followed by a 5km run.
The second leg of the Cross Adventure series will take place on Sunday, 16 March 2014 at Klipbaai, Vereeniging followed by the final event on Sunday, 13 April at Abrahamsrust in Sasolburg. Athletes of all fitness levels and families are invited to join in the festivities of this multi-sport event which is a great endurance race and fun outdoor activity.
