Sasol calls on all adrenaline enthusiasts to participate in this year’s Sasol Cross Adventure Events, which will kick-off at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark, on 23 February 2014. A new element of adventure has been added to this multi-sport event which offers something for all ages and levels of fitness.
The 2014 Sasol Cross Adventure Events grants athletes the choice to participate individually or in teams, in either a triathlon or duathlon. The sprint triathlon comprises of a 500m swim, 10km mountain bike ride and a 3km run; the standard triathlon is made up of a 1km swim, 22km mountain bike ride and a 5km run; and the duathlon includes a 3km run, 22km mountain bike ride followed by a 5km run.
In addition, there is also a kids duathlon for children from the age of 5 to 15 years.
This event includes two age categories; a 10 to 15 year age group race, comprising a 500m trail run, 3km mountain bike ride followed by another 500m run. The second is a fun event for five to nine-year olds, which entails a 200m trail run, an 800m mountain bike ride, finishing off with a 100m trail run.
The second leg of this event will follow on 16 March 2014 at Klipbaai, Vereeniging and the title winner will be revealed after the third and final leg at Abrahamsrust, Sasolburg on 13 April 2014. The Free State is known for its relatively fast and flat routes which gives athletes the opportunity to clock up some personal best times.
According to Cobus Jansen, Manager Public Affairs: Communication at Sasol, Sasolburg this event forms part of the company’s drive to encourage communities to engage in sporting activities and pursue healthier lifestyles. “The kids duathlon allows families to come out in force and enjoy a day of active fun in an outdoor environment,” said Jansen.
The entry fee for the sprint triathlon and the duathlon ranges from R170 per individual to R200 per team. Individuals and teams participating in the standard triathlon pay R250 and R260 respectively. Cash prizes of R13 500 are awarded at each event with an additional R15 000 in cash prizes at the final event.
