Johannesburg, South Africa – As part of its ‘Sasol for Good’ initiative, Sasol will hand over nearly 20 000 books collected by Sasol employees to the Maharishi Institute, Girls and Boys Club of Soweto, Jabavu Community Library and Vaal University of Technology.
“As our first global Sasol for Good project we called on our people to contribute to the educational development of children in communities worldwide,” said Maurice Radebe, Executive Vice President, Energy Business, Sasol Limited.
“Reading is an essential life and business skills. We interact with the written word in everyday life, to complete simple and complex tasks like finding street names, buying grocery, taking daily medicines or to convince a board to make a strategic decision,” add Radebe.
Employees across Sasol’s operations in South Africa, spanning Sasolburg, Secunda and Johannesburg donated a variety of books and educational toys in 30 days during the month of International Mandela Day.
Sasol launched ‘Sasol for Good’, which is its global employee volunteerism programme. The intent with this formalised programme is to leverage the considerable and diverse expertise of its people around the world to build communities.
