“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.” - Nelson Mandela
This year will be the first time that we celebrate a day set aside for a legend, without our beloved Tata. As the world still mourns the death of Nelson Mandela, this year, and the years to follow, means we commemorate the legacy he left behind on International Mandela Day.
To commemorate this poignant, yet auspicious occasion, Sasol will be hosting the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust (NMCHT) at its offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Sasol has committed R20m to the building of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and are now inviting their employees to pledge to the building and will further match the pledges, doubling the incentive to give back and make a tangible difference.
Pam Mudhray, Group Community Affairs Manager at Sasol said, “After Madiba’s passing, the world has been in a state of mourning for the loss of a truly inspirational leader. However, Mandela Day exists to honour his legacy, and his values, through volunteering community service. It was he who reminded us that we all have the power within us to transform the world, so this is exactly what we’re going to do.”
Sasol will be affording its employees the opportunity to pledge and engage with this worthy cause as part of their ‘67 minutes’. In doing so, Sasol employees will be contributing to the development of a hospital that will shape child health care globally. Key activities to roll out during the day will be an exhibition of the hospital. Employees can explore the plans for the R1 billion project which is due to open its door in the first quarter of 2016. Sasol employees will be able to pledge or contribute to the hospital as well as to various other identified causes.
“Sasol for Good is the Sasol Employee Volunteering Programme. We want to drive movements for change that create true transformational value,” said Mudhray. “We want to enable our employees to create legacies by helping them understand how their contributions shape and sustain thriving communities. There is no better example of what it means to leave a lasting legacy than our national father, Nelson Mandela.”
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital exemplifies Tata Madiba’s legacy of his unwavering affection for children and their right to a quality life. “This facility will make a lasting and significant impact on the lives of many children who will come through its doors,” added Mudhray.
