Johannesburg, South Africa – Sasol Inzalo Foundation (SalF) has donated a state-of-the-art Mobile Science Laboratory to be used by learners in rural schools around the Cradle of Humankind in Krugersdorp, Gauteng.

An innovative solution which addresses the lack of essential science equipment at schools, a big advantage of mobile science labs is that they can be shared by several schools in the same vicinity. This is due to their ability to travel from one school to another on a daily basis, where at each school teachers and learners can conduct science experiments using apparatuses in the mobile lab.

This is the seventh mobile science lab that SalF has donated over the last financial year.

“We currently have other Mobile Science Labs serving schools in the Libode, Lusikisiki and Mount Frere and Cofimvaba District (Eastern Cape), Fezile Dabi District (Free State) and Northern Cape” said Dr Mapitso Molefe, Director of Sasol Inzalo Foundation.

“We are rolling out these mobile science labs in partnership with the Department of Science & Technology, Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) and National Research Foundation (NRF). This is part of our mandate and commitment towards building the capacity to teach and learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in our schools,” she said.
