International integrated chemicals and energy company Sasol is urging top performing Grade 12 Maths and Science learners who are interested in becoming Geologists and Metallurgical Engineers to apply for its all-inclusive bursary programme for the 2018 academic year.
Applications for this programme, which also covers tuition, accommodation, meals, and textbooks fees for those wanting to study other fields of engineering as well as B.Sc/B.Com Accounting, closes on 30 April 2017. To be considered, applicants need to obtain 80% for Maths, 70% for Science and 60% for English.
Manager: Graduate Centre at Sasol Corporate Bursary Services, Monica Luwes, said while Sasol is happy with the number of bursary applications it has received this year for the 2018 academic year, there is still room for those learners who want to become Geologists, Industrial Engineers and Metallurgists.
“Of particular interest to us are girl learners. We want to encourage our girl learners to explore these exciting fields of study and be exposed to the world of opportunities and growth that these careers have to offer,” said Luwes.
Geology is the scientific study of the earth. Geologists study earth processes such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, and volcanic eruptions to survey land and draw up, among other things, safe building plans. Metallurgy Engineering is significantly different but just as exciting. This field covers the mining, extraction, design and processing of metals, as well as how metals react to environmental changes or stress. Metallurgists work with different metals to create materials with specific required properties.
