The Volkswagen Sasolracing team will enter three cars in the S2000 category, the premium class of national rallying – each car powered by Sasol turbofuels™ plus and Sasol techno oil™. The team contesting is Henk Lategan and navigator Barry White, Hans Weijs and Björn Degandt as well as Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin, who have moved up from the S2000 Challenge category.
“The Sasol Rally is an important event on our calendar and I urge families, fans and the community to support their teams in action. Sasol’s support of motorsport, particularly rallying, provides us with a platform to showcase our technical capabilities and the quality of our products,” said Zolile Ntukwana, General Manager, Sasol Oil. Sasol has been involved in motorsport since 1962 and is regarded as one of the pioneers in the development of racing fuel.
Aside from the action-filled rally, spectators can enjoy the breathtaking scenery, as Mpumalanga is renowned for its iconic outdoor attractions, experiences and hospitable community.
Sasol has a longstanding relationship with York Timbers, and have joined forces in numerous social upliftment projects in the province, ensuring that a legacy remains after the rally. This year, the companies have invested close to R500 000 in upgrading educational and community centres – the beneficiaries include the hawkers market, Eco Schools Programme, Glory Hills Primary School, Graskop Primary School and Memezile High School.
The Sasol Rally kicks off with the scrutinizing and safety checks on 10 April, from 16:00 at the Sabie Square. An interactive kiddies zone will be set up at Sabie Square from 13:00. The rally officially starts at Sabie Square on Friday, 11 April, at 10:00 and will finish at the Nelspruit Show Grounds on 12 April, at 16:00.
Fans are invited to the Sasolracing pit to view the cars up-close and interact with the team. Most stages are designed to provide superior spectator points, allowing the public to view the rally from safe proximity.
