After an excellent first year in the South African National Rally Championship 2011, Team Sasol is fired up and ready to take on the new season, which kicks off on 23 March 2012.
The S2000 Class Ford Fiestas, piloted by Mark Cronje and navigator Robin Houghton, and Jon Williams and Cobus Vrey are raring to go. “This year we’re going to focus on the detail of each rally so that we get the best out of the car. We’re really pleased with how the cars performed in the first Championship, but there’s always room for improvement,” said second-placed SA National Rally 2011 Champion Mark Cronje.
The upcoming Tour Natal Rally comprises of 16 stages, which are made up of five gravel, nine speed tests in sugar cane fields and a new stage in Durban’s city centre. Team Sasol will set the stages alight with blistering performance now that the cars have been upgraded with better technology.
“We’re really excited on taking our lessons from last year and using them to do better this year. We have stiff competition this year, but with our enhanced racing performance we’ve got what it takes to give everyone else a run for their money,” said Jon Williams, driver of the second car.
“We’re excited about Team Sasol in 2012. They did a great job in 2011. It was their first as a team and the lessons learnt will be put into this season,” added Alan Cameron, Managing Director, Sasol Oil. “We’re behind our team and will be cheering them on.”
The Ford Fiestas have highly sophisticated engines that have been tuned to ensure top performance. The performances of both cars provide critical feedback needed in the development of Sasol Turbo Fuels and Lubricants. These extreme conditions test the products to the limit.
“Sasol’s fuels and lubricants are industry leaders. We’re proud to be the only fuel and oil company in South Africa with the technical expertise and capacity to undertake world-class research and development. Coupled with our motor racing teams, our products are continuously improved through rigorous testing,” concluded Cameron.
